Deborah Ashlock

Ms. Ashlock has worked in public school education for 46 years and for 35 years at Perry-Lecompton High. Ms. Ashlock has a PhD in Art Education from Kansas University. She currently teaches Intro to Art, 3-D Art, Drawing, Painting, and Advanced Art at PLHS. Ms. Ashlock has two wonderful brothers, three awesome nephews, two dogs and would like to say that her students are her "kids." In her spare time she enjoys creating art, hunting, cooking, spending time with her dog, and training her dog to hunt birds. She is also a deligate for the American Kenel Club. She shows dogs in a variety of venues, draws, paints, and works out when she has the time. She also enjoys stewarding and caring for her home on three acres, she is single (her preferred state of life) this is quite a challenge and is also rewarding. Anything that involves the outdoors is always welcome. Healthy eating is also important to her. She eats preservative free and organic foods when she can afford it.

" I became a teacher because I thought you could change the world. I want to help people think more creatively and independently.  My favorite part of teaching is seeing students grow up, interacting with their personalities, seeing student artwork, and working with other wonderful staff. I originally wanted to sell my drawings and paintings. I interestingly began college as a math major and then switched to philosophy 2nd semester of my freshman year. I ultimately decided to teach art because I had poor art teachers in high school and though I could do better. :)"
